Social Skills Groups
Why social skills?
Having social skill is a critical part of a child's life experience. Social skills involves not only basic tools of social awareness (such as eye contact and being able to talk to new people) but also the more subtle nuances of every day social interaction. Social skill challenges may be caused by other emotional health problems (such as anxiety, ADHD, etc.) and on the flip side struggles with social skills may lead to emotional challenges (such as low confidence, depression). Here at PATC we provide 2 different levels of social skill work:
Advanced Social Skills & Small Group Social Skills.
These groups utilize art therapy, play therapy, & mindfulness to help children with:
-
sharing
-
taking turns
-
self-advocacy
-
listening
-
teamwork
-
communication skills
-
emotion regulation
-
stress management
-
bullying
-
awareness of thoughts & feelings
-
social anxiety
ADVANCED SOCIAL SKILLS (SOCIAL SKILLS 2.0)
This group is designed to address the more complex world of social nuances. It is an ideal fit for those who want to feel more socially confident in navigating friendships, meeting new people, and dealing with typical social situations of upper elementary school. By giving kids the confidence to navigate their social world now, this group focuses on laying a solid foundation for children to build upon as they increasingly become in charge of their own social world.

We assemble our groups based on our current client needs. Therefore, the days/times are always rotating. Please talk with your therapist if you feel your child would benefit from one of our therapy groups.

SMALL GROUP SOCIAL SKILLS
Each small group is custom designed to fit the needs of the individual group members. For example, certain small groups may focus more on social skills for anxiety vs. social skills for executive functioning concerns. The advantage of a small group is that it allows children who might struggle in larger groups to learn tools in a structured and individualized setting.
